MahaDBT Scholarship

MahaDBT scholarships are the scholarships enlisted on the MahaDBT or Aaple Sarkar DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) portal. A dedicated online scholarship portal of the Government of Maharashtra, MahaDBT hosts about 38 post-matric (from Class 11 onwards) scholarships that are offered by different departments under the state government. 

Before going into the details, let’s look into some of the most important features of MahaDBT scholarship –

  • ONLY the students who are domiciles of Maharashtra state can apply for and avail the benefits of MahaDBT scholarships. 
  • Students who have successfully applied for a scholarship and submitted their documents on MahaDBT are ensured a smooth disbursal of scholarships directly into their bank accounts. 
  • Students need to search for ‘mahadbtmahait’ online to get directed to the MahaDBT portal

MahaDBT Scholarship – Application Timeline

The last date to apply for MahaDBT scholarships generally falls in the month of February every year. However, students are advised to keep checking the MahaDBT Portal from time to time to keep themselves updated with the application timelines.

State Government Departments Offering MahaDBT Scholarships 

There are a total of 8 departments under the Government of Maharashtra that offer scholarships on MahaDBT. These scholarships are meant for students coming from different sections of the society. MahaDBT Scholarship – Social Justice and Special Assistance Department (SJSA)

The Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance (SJSA) provides 5 different scholarships through the MahaDBT portal. These scholarships are meant for students domiciled in Maharashtra and help them continue their education at post-Matric level. Post Matric Tuition Fee and Examination Fee (Freeship)

The annual income of parents/guardian must not exceed INR 2.5 lakh

The student’s category should be Scheduled Caste (SC) or Neo Buddhist

The student must be a resident of Maharashtra.

The student should have passed SSC/equivalent matric.

The student’s institute should be located in Maharashtra and recognised by the Government.

The students should admit through CAP round only for Professional Courses

  • Tuition Fees

  • Exam Fees, and

  • Other fees which are mandatory or compulsorily payable by the student to the institution is covered under the scheme.

Maintenance Allowance for Students Studying in Professional Courses

  • The students must be pursuing a professional course
  • The student should be a scholarship holder of Government of India
  • The annual family income must be less than or equal to INR 2.5 lakh

The students who are studying professional curriculum and residing in Hostel (Government or Institutes Hostel or outside) are eligible.

The students residing in government hostels – 

  • Course duration between 4 to 5 years: INR 7,000 per annum
  • Course duration between 2 to 3 years: INR 5,000
  • Course duration below 2 years: INR 500

The students who are not admitted to government hostels:

  • Course duration between 4 to 5 years: INR 10,000 per annum
  • Course duration between 2 to 3 years: INR 7,000 per annum
  • Course duration below 2 years: INR 5,000 per annum

Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship

  • The student must belong to SC category
  • There is no income limit for the scholarship
  • Students must be studying in Class 11th or 12th
  • Students must have secured 75% and above in Class 10th
  • Students must have taken admission in Class 11th 
  • The student should be a resident of Maharashtra

Scholarship of INR 300 per month for 10 months (for two years).

This Scholarship will be given in addition to the Government of India (GOI) scholarship and freeship

Post-Matric Scholarship for Persons with Disability

    • The students who are disabled are eligible to apply (Disability – 40% or above)
    • The student must be a resident of Maharashtra
  • The student should be studying in a recognised university or institute
  • The scholarship will NOT be applicable if the candidate fails or quits the same course
  • The student belonging to the Maharashtra state but studying in a recognised institute or college out of Maharashtra and are also eligible
  • The students who are pursuing post-graduation in the medical field but not allowed to practice out of institute are also eligible
  • The candidates who are taking distance education from a recognised institution where non-refundable fees have to be paid by the student are eligible to apply

A student residing in college/institute or any other recognized hostel & paying hostel fees will be given maintenance allowance at hosteller rates

The professional and technical education candidates who have to go for a practice tour will get INR 500 at maximum.

If the project is a mandatory part of course, then for printing and typing, an additional of INR 600 will be provided

MahaDBT Scholarship – Department of Tribal Development (TDD)

ST category students who are domiciles of Maharashtra can apply for 4 distinct post-matric scholarships offered by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Maharashtra. Find information on these 4 scholarships along with their eligibility criteria and benefits in the table below.

  • Book grant: INR 1,200 per annum

Tuition Fee and Exam Fee for Tribal Students

  • The student’s annual family income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakh 
  • The students should belong to ST category ONLY

Vocational Education Fee Reimbursement

  • The student’s annual family income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakh
  • The students should belong to the ST category only.
  • The students who are enrolled for vocational education courses like, Engineering, Pharmacy, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Vaastu Shastra, MBA, and MCA will be eligible.

Tuition fees and exam fees waiver (as per approved college fee structure)

Vocational Education Maintenance Allowance

The student’s annual family income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakh 

The students should belong to the ST category only

The maintenance allowance is categorized by course duration (Hostellers/Day Scholars/) per annum.

Course duration of 4 or 5 years –  INR 7,000 and INR 10,000 respectively

Course duration of 2 or 3 years – INR 5,000 and INR 7,000 respectively.

Course duration of 2 years or less – INR 5,000

MahaDBT Scholarship – Directorate of Higher Education (DHE)

The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) is an important part of the Government of Maharashtra which offers 13 distinct MahaDBT scholarships for students of Maharashtra. The scholarships are merit and means based, which means that the scholarships are provided to meritorious as well as low-income family applicants to fund their education at post-matric level.   • General category candidates who have taken admission can apply
  • The applicant must have given exams for all semesters
  • The applicant must not have a gap of 2 years during his/her course
  • The courses that students have enrolled in must be approved by the government or AICTE

For students with up to INR 2.5 lakh family annual income – 100% tuition fee waived for Government & Non-government aided courses

For students with family annual income of up to INR 8 lakh –  50% Government and Non-government aided tuition fees

For professional and non-professional courses 50% and 100% of the examination fee will be paid

Assistance to Meritorious Students Scholarship – Junior Level

  • Class 11 & 12 students are eligible
  • The students should have a DHE sanctioned letter
  • Maharashtrian students studying out of Maharashtra can also apply

AMS junior-level scholarship – Up to INR 3,000

AMS senior-level scholarship – Up to INR 7,000

Education Concession to the Children of Ex-Servicemen

The applicant must be – 

  • The son/daughter/wife/widow of ex-servicemen 
  • Enrolled in government-aided colleges only
  • A domicile of Maharashtra
  • Studying in Maharashtra at a government-aided school

Students studying out of Maharashtra cannot apply for this scheme

College dress allowance and books allowance of upto INR 445

Eklavya Scholarship

  • The students must have graduated in degree courses of Law, Commerce & Arts with at least 60% marks (at least 70% marks in Science)
  • Annual income of the applicant’s parents must not exceed INR 75,000
  • The applicant must be a resident of Maharashtra state
  • The beneficiary should not do a part-time or full-time job.

Maharashtrian students studying out of Maharashtra CANNOT apply for this scheme

INR 5,000

State Government Open Merit Scholarship

The applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Maharashtra 
  • Have obtained at least 60% marks in Class 12
  • Have enrolled for Arts, Commerce, Science and Law courses

Maharashtrian students studying out of Maharashtra CANNOT apply for this scheme

INR 100 per month to be paid directly to the student’s bank account

Scholarship to Meritorious Students Possessing Mathematics/Physics

The applicants must  – 

  • Obtain at least 60% in Science exam, and more than 60% in Maths & Physics in Class 12.
  • Be a resident of the Maharashtra State

Maharashtrian students studying out of Maharashtra CANNOT apply for this scheme

INR 100 per month to be paid directly to the student’s bank account.

Government Vidyaniketan Scholarship

The applicant must – 

  • Obtain 60% marks in the Class 10 examination
  • Have passed Class 10 exam from the State Government Vidyanikethan ONLY.
  • Be a resident of the Maharashtra

INR 100 per month

State Government Daxshina Adhichatra Scholarship

The applicant must be – 

  • A graduate student from non-agriculture University only
  • A resident of the Maharashtra

Government Research Adichatra

The applicant must be 

  • A postgraduate degree holder
  • A resident of Maharashtra
  • Have secured 60% marks in post-graduation

Scholarship amount INR 750 per month and INR 1,000 per year for other expenses

Education Concession to the Children Freedom Fighter

The applicant must be –

  • The son/daughter/wife/widow of a freedom fighter
  • A domicile of Maharashtra

Maharashtrian students studying out of Maharashtra cannot apply for this scheme

Scholarship of INR 50 per month for PG courses and INR 60 per month for Engineering courses.

Books allowance of INR 200 per annum for PG courses and INR 400 per annum for Engineering courses.

Jawaharlal Nehru University Scholarship

Applicants must be – 

  • Maharashtrian students who have studied in JNU in an undergraduate or postgraduate course
  • Domiciles of Maharashtra

Scholarship amount INR 8,000 per month plus INR 10,000 extra annually

Assistance to Meritorious Students Scholarship – Senior Level

The applicants must be – 

  • Class 11 & 12 students

Maharashtrian students studying out of Maharashtra can apply for this scheme

AMS junior-level scholarship – Up to INR 2,300

AMS senior-level scholarship – Up to INR 72,000

Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Vasatigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna (DHE)

  • The applicant must be a domicile of Maharashtra
  • For professional courses, children of registered labour or Alpabhudarak or both are eligible
  • The annual income of the family/guardian should not exceed INR 8 lakh 
  • The applicants should not avail any other Nirvah Bhatta benefits
  • The applicant should attempt every semester or annual exam

Professional courses:

  • INR 30,000 for 10 months will be paid to students studying in MMRDA/PMRDA/Aurangabad/Nagpur city belonging to marginal landholder families with annual income up to INR 8 lakh 
  • Students whose family annual income is up to INR 1 lakh will be paid INR 10,000 for 10 months

Non-professional courses:

  • Scholarship worth INR 2,000 for 10 months for students whose family annual income is up to INR 1 lakh

MahaDBT Scholarship – Directorate of Technical Education (DTE)

Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra State is a highly acclaimed and flexible higher education institution which looks after the individual, institutional and socio-developmental needs of the people of Maharashtra. DTE Scholarship includes two MahaDBT scholarship schemes namely, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Shulkh Shishyavrutti Yojna and Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Vasatigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna.

  • The applicants must not avail any other scholarship while applying for this
  • For the current academic year, only 2 children from a family are allowed to avail benefits of the scheme
  • The total annual income of the family must not exceed INR 8 lakh 
  • The minimum 50% attendance in the previous semester is required
  • The candidate should not have had a gap of two or more years during his course duration

50% of Tuition Fees and 50% of Exam Fees

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Vastigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna (DTE)

  • The applicant must be an Indian national
  • They must be a domicile of Maharashtra state
  • The applicant must be a “Bonafide Student of Institute” and pursuing a professional or technical course
  • The applicants from the deemed university are NOT eligible

Children of Registered Labor/Alpabhudharak (Marginal Land Holder):

  • Scholarship worth INR 30,000 is awarded to students in the institutes in MMRDA/PMRDA/Aurangabad City/Nagpur City for the period of 10 months
  • Scholarship worth INR 20,000 for 10 months for students in other areas

Students whose annual family income is up to 8 lakh:

  • Applicants who belong to the institutes in MMRDA/PMRDA/Aurangabad City/Nagpur City will be awarded INR 10,000 for 10 months
  • Scholarship worth INR 8,000 for students in other areas for the period of 10 months

MahaDBT Scholarship – VJNT, OBC & SBC Welfare Department

This department of the Maharashtra government aims to provide students belonging to VJNT, OBC and SBC categories with the opportunity to pursue education by availing the MahaDBT scholarships listed below.

The scholarship eligibility is divided into Group A- E:

Group A – scholarship worth INR 425 per month for hostellers and INR 190 per month for day scholars

Group B – scholarship worth INR 290 per month for hostellers and INR 190 per month for day scholars

Group C – same scholarship amount as Group B

Group D – scholarship worth INR 320 per month for hostellers and INR 120 per month for day scholars

Group E – scholarship worth INR 150 per month and for hostellers and INR 90 per month for non-hostellers

Tuition fee, exam, maintenance allowance are paid 100% to students studying in govt/non-aided institutions in professional and non-professional courses.

Tuition Fees and Examination Fees to VJNT Students

The applicant must:

  • belong to the VJNT category
  • be a resident of Maharashtra state
  • have an annual family income not exceeding INR 8 lakh 

  • students enrolled in degree courses in Health Science etc. are eligible to apply
  • students who are enrolled in courses such as Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries are also eligible to apply
  • The freeship will be applicable for students enrolled in unaided or aided government colleges pursuing technical education

100% tuition fees and exam fees are reimbursed to applicants via CAP system

Maintenance Allowance to VJNT and SBC Students Studying in Professional Courses and Living in Hostel Attached to Professional Colleges

The applicant must:

  • belong to the VJNT and SBC category
  • have an annual family income not more than INR 1 lakh 
  • be admitted to hostels in professional colleges
  • NOT take admission in a government hostel
  • be enrolled in professional courses such as Engineering, Medical, Veterinary, Architecture etc.

Maintenance allowance of up to INR 700 per month for 4-5 years course.

Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship for Students Studying in 11th & 12th Standard of VJNT & SBC Category

  • The applicants should belong to Vimukta Jatis, Nomadic Tribes, and Special Backward Classes
  • The applicant must be studying in class 11th and 12th in junior colleges
  • There is no annual family income limit
  • The students should NOT have a gap year in between studies
  • The applicants must be residents of Maharashtra

The applicants will receive a scholarship up to INR 300 per month for a 10 month period

Post Matric Scholarship to OBC Students

The applicant must:

  • belong to the OBC category
  • be pursuing education courses approved by the government
  • come via CAP round for professional courses
  • have 75% attendance for the current year

The benefits are disbursed into following Group A-E categories:

Group A – INR 425 per month for hosteller and INR 190 per month for day scholars

  • The applicant must be pursuing post-matric education from government-approved colleges
  • They must belong to the OBC category
  • Applicants must be residents of Maharashtra
  • The students pursuing degree courses related to Health Science are eligible to apply
  • The students pursuing higher and technical education from aided or unaided government colleges are also eligible
  • The applicants who are pursuing courses in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fishery etc. are also eligible to apply.

MahaDBT Scholarship – School Education and Sports Department (SESD)

School Education and Sports Department (SESD), Government of Maharashtra provides Open Merit Scholarships in junior colleges to the students who have secured 60% marks in their SSC examination. These scholarships aim to motivate students to pursue higher education. The department also offers other merit scholarships for students who are domiciled in the state.

  • secured 50% marks in SSC examination
  • have cleared their exam in one attempt

For male applicants – scholarship up to INR 140 per month for 10 months

Non-hosteller male applicants – INR 80 per month

Hosteller and day scholar female applicants – INR 160 per month and INR 100 per month respectively

MahaDBT Scholarship – Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER)

Students of Maharashtra who aim to pursue medical or related courses can avail MahaDBT scholarships offered by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research. The table below mentions 2 distinct MahaDBT scholarship schemes under DMER that offer course fee reimbursement for students applying for MBBS, BDS, Nursing, etc courses in government-aided/corporation/private unaided colleges.

The students should have taken admission to degrees such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, etc in government-aided colleges.

Hostel maintenance allowance – Up to INR 3000 per year for students pursuing courses in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad and INR 2000 for students in other locations

Students whose parents are registered labour – INR 30,000 per year for regions such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad

MahaDBT Scholarship – Minority Development Department Scholarships

Minority students pursuing Arts, Commerce, Science, Law, Medical, and other courses in Maharashtra can avail MahaDBT scholarships offered by the minority department. These post-matric MahaDBT scholarships  are provided by the minority department in partnership with DTE and DMER

Scholarship for Students of Minority Communities Pursuing Higher and Professional Courses (DTE)

The applicant must:

    • be an Indian national
    • be a domicile of Maharashtra state
    • have passed SSC from Maharashtra state
    • be a “Bonafide Student of Institute” and admitted to a Professional and Technical course (diploma/graduation/ post-graduation degree)
    • be admitted through Centralized Admission Process (CAP)/Institute level
  • not avail any other scholarship/stipend
  • have a total annual family income not exceeding INR 8 lakh

Scholarship for Students of Minority Communities Pursuing Higher and Professional Courses (DMER)

The applicant must:

  • be a student enrolled in medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, etc and courses should be affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik
  • have an annual family income not exceeding INR 8 lakh
  • be a domicile of Maharashtra

30% scholarship is reserved for female applicants and 70% for the male applicants

A total annual course fee waiver of INR 25,000 

MahaDBT Scholarship – Application Process

Aaple Sarkar DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) is a unique portal of the Government of Maharashtra, through which the applicants can apply for DTE Scholarships. This portal helps Maharashtrian citizens avail benefits of various scholarship schemes available on it. 

Please note: Having an Aadhaar number is a mandatory requirement to apply for any scholarship scheme through the Aaple Sarkar DBT portal. 

The applicants must be well aware of all the application-related requirements prior to filling up the scholarship form. Look into the step-by-step instructions on how to apply for scholarships on Aaple Sarkar DBT portal:

Step 1: Visit the homepage of the Aaple Sarkar DBT Portal

Step 2: Click on the scholarship you want to apply for – “Post Matric Scholarship”. Now, click on “New Applicant Registration” to register yourself

Step 3: Provide the required information and register

Step 4: Verify your email ID and mobile number to complete the registration. 

Step 5: Click on ‘Get OTP for Email ID Verification’ for email verification and ‘Get OTP for Mobile Number Verification’ for mobile number verification

Please note: Both email ID and mobile number verification is mandatory

Step 6: Once registered successfully, log in using the registered email ID and password

Step 7: After a successful login attempt, provide the information of Aadhaar number and proceed

Step 8: Authenticate your Aadhaar number. 

There are two types of authentication available:

  1. OTP – If the applicant’s mobile number is registered with Aadhaar, then they can choose authentication type – OTP
  2. Biometric – If the mobile number is not registered with Aadhaar, they can choose the authentication type as Biometric

Note: Here we have proceeded with the OTP authentication process

Step 9: Enter the Aadhaar number and click on the “Send OTP” button. The system validates the aadhaar number and sends the system generated “OTP” to the registered mobile number. 

Step 10: Enter the OTP and click on the “OK” button. After the successful OTP verification, the applicant details fetched from UIDAI will be auto-populated in the personal details, address details, bank details etc.

Step 11: The applicants will be able to see the dashboard with available scholarships listed on it

Step 12: Select the scholarship you want to apply for and click on the “Apply” button to start a new application

Step 13: Complete the profile by providing all necessary information

Step 14: Once the profile is updated, go to the “All Schemes” section and search for the MahaDBT scholarship you would like to apply under the departments in the MahaDBT portal

Step 15:  A list of suggested MahaDBT scholarship schemes will appear. Select the scholarship to apply for

Step 16: An application form will appear. Fill in all necessary details and upload all supporting documents (if not already uploaded)

Step 17: Finally, submit the application

MahaDBT Scholarship – Documents Required

Students must look into the MahaDBT portal to learn about all the documents that are required to submit the applications for various MahaDBT Scholarships. 

The most important documents that are needed during the application process of MahaDBT scholarships are:

  • Domicile certificate
  • Income certificate (Provided by Tehsildar)
  • HSC and SSC certificates
  • Aadhar Card or Aadhaar Enrollment Slip
  • Fee receipt
  • College bonafide certificate (showcasing that the candidate belongs to a particular educational institution)
  • Caste validity certificate
  • CAP allotment letter (Applicable for scholarships offered by the Department of Higher Education and Department of Technical Education)
  • Hostel certificate (if applicable)
